2001年中国在所有进口可可豆及可可制品国家中排名第27，到今天已经上升到排名第14, 并在过去十年以平均每年14%的速度增长。由于中国并不产可可豆产量极少，几乎所有可可豆都要靠进口得来。而虽然在2019年仅仅有10%的进口是从非洲而来，但增长幅度迅猛，其中就科特迪瓦一个国家对中国出口就同比增长了48%，从2018年的3300万到2019年4900万，成为中国进口可可排名第七的国家，并在所有非洲国家中排名第一（加纳排第二有2500万美元；多哥以460万美元排第三，及第四的尼日利亚有240万美元）。因此可以预计在未来，中非之间的可可贸易有莫大的发展潜力。
